5 rubles 1988 Soviet Union, Monument of Petr I (Leningrad)

Equestrian statue of Peter I, installed in front facade of St. Michael's Castle, has a difficult history. It was the 1st Russian equestrian monument. As conceived by Peter the monument should be installed on the site of a great battle.

But the monument was built much later, in 1782.
